A faculty–student co-design partnership at Penn GSE.
This page describes what taking part involves. For background on the initiative — its rationale, methodology, and research team — see the program page at Penn GSE.
The work moves through four stages. Courses differ, and the stages are not a rigid schedule — they describe the kinds of work we do together.
Course materials — Syllabi, assignment prompts, rubrics, and selected Canvas pages, so the team understands how the course is built and what students are asked to do.
Classroom access — Permission to observe class sessions, arranged around your schedule and conducted without disruption.
Conversations — An initial planning meeting, co-design meetings as the work develops, and a closing debrief.
Written input — Brief reflections at points during the term, and a light review of the course summary before it enters the Repository.
Instructional agency — You retain full autonomy over your course. You may adjust or decline any activity to fit your instructional goals.
Professional partnership — The research team works as respectful partners. We aim to minimize disruption and to provide practical design support, not to evaluate your teaching.
Confidentiality — All reporting and dissemination use pseudonyms or de-identified data unless you give explicit permission otherwise.
These are common questions from faculty who are considering partnering with the initiative.
